Kaupapa Kereru Oral Histories Project

In 2004 Kaupapa Kererū undertook an Oral Histories Project by interviewing 12 people in order to gather information on the history of kererū on Horomaka / Banks Peninsula.

The objectives of the Oral Histories Project are:

  • To increase our understanding of the history of kererū ecology on Banks Peninsula / Horomaka (i.e. patterns, trends, numbers, feeding ecology, preferred habitat)
  • To understand the values different sections of society hold for kererū
  • To increase our understanding of Mātauranga Ngāi Tahu about kererū

The interviews have been completed and Kaupapa Kererū is currently preparing a report summarizing the information obtained from the research.
