Ngāi Tahu offers assistance to individual Ngāi Tahu whānau members.

Out of School Tuition

This funding is to assist Ngāi Tahu at school to improve their educational achievement. download eligibility criteria and an application form.

Seconday School

There are a range of scholarships available, including the Yamada-O’Regan scholarships which are administered by Te Tapuae o Rehua.

Tertiary Grants and Scholarships

Ngāi Tahu Kā Pūtea Grants and Scholarships are available to registered Ngāi Tahu who are enrolled in tertiary study.  For the last six years, Te Tapuae o Rehua has administered Ka Pūtea Grants and Scholarships.  From 1 October 2011 this will be undertaken by the Whai Rawa and Direct Distributions team at Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.  Te Tapuae o Rehua will continue to administer a range of other scholarships, including the Yamada-O’Regan scholarships which are available to secondary students.

Ka Pūtea Grants

For fulltime first year tertiary students the Ngāi Tahu Kā Pūtea Grants are worth $250. For fulltime second and subsequent year students these grants are worth $500.

Ka Pūtea Scholarships

There are a total of 40 Ngāi Tahu Kā Pūtea Scholarships valued at $1500 each available to registered Ngāi Tahu tertiary students. The three scholarship categories are General Scholarships, Targeted Scholarships and Papatipū Rūnanga Scholarships. The 2011 Ngāi Tahu Kā Pūtea Scholarships have now closed.  Criteria for Ka Pūtea Scholarships for 2012 will be announced early in 2012 and application forms will be available from 1st March 2012.
