Kaiwhakahaere and Deputy Kaiwhakahaere 2011 Election Results
Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu held an election for Kaiwhakahaere and Deputy Kaiwhakahaere at its meeting this morning, Saturday 17 September 2011, in accordance with its policy adopted in April 2010.
As Secretary I am able to announce that the representative for Kaikōura, Mark Solomon, as the only nominated candidate for the role of Kaiwhakahaere, was duly elected to that role for a three-year term. Te Rūnanga also voted to appoint Lisa Tumahai the representative for Ngāti Waewae to a three-year term as Deputy Kaiwhakahaere.
This election completes a process which allowed for higher levels of involvement by Papatipu Rūnanga than under the previous process. The key change was that nominations for each of the positions came from Papatipu Rūnanga. For nominations to be valid, nominees had to be nominated by their own Papatipu Rūnanga but could also be nominated by other rūnanga. All nominations were made available to Ngāi Tahu Whānui on the Ngāi Tahu website prior to the election.
Notification of these election results will remain posted on the Ngāi Tahu website for the next six weeks and in addition I have emailed Papatipu Rūnanga with the results for distribution to Ngāi Tahu Whānui.
Ngā mihi,
Mike Sang
