Quentin Hix

Appointed to represent Arowhenua Rūnanga in 2009, Quentin Hix has had extensive experience in voluntary and professional governance roles in organisations at a local and national level. Over the years he has held a variety of roles with Te Rūnanga O Arowhenua Society Inc., including time as Chairman and Secretary.

Quentin was born and raised in Temuka. After studying in Christchurch, he returned to South Canterbury to pursue a law career and is now based in Timaru, raising a young family and leading a growing law firm.

As a practicing barrister and solicitor, some of Quentin's experience includes contractual and commercial issues, dispute resolution (acting as an independent mediator) and assisting clients in civil disputes covering a wide range of areas such as employment, resource management and commercial activities.

Current governance roles include Chair of Trust Aoraki Limited (2004), having been first appointed as independent director on establishment of the Trust in 2002. He is also a trustee of the South Canterbury Kiwi Can Charitable Trust, a life skills education programme for children. Until December 2009, he was a member of the South Canterbury District Health Board.

Quentin describes his style of governance as open and inclusive and he works to ensure all board members have full input into decision making.
