Tim has been the Makaawhio representative on Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu since January 1998. He is a lecturer in Māori health at the Wellington Medical School campus of the University of Otago.
Tim believes that the Te Rūnanga structure offers Ngāi Tahu the opportunity to develop a modern iwi structure that preserves our tikaka and rakatirataka while creating new and exciting opportunities for our people to grow.
Tim’s key goal for the coming year is to embed a democratic process that gives Papatipu Rūnanga and Kāi Tahu whānui a sense of ownership and pride in the iwi structure. Te Rūnanga must also continue to match economic progress with social and cultural growth so that our children and future generations hold their Kāi Tahutaka at the heart of their identity.
