Sandy was appointed as Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu Representative for Te Taumutu in September 2007.

She believes her role on Te Rūnanga is to ensure full and democratic participation for the iwi in the decision-making process.

Throughout her career Sandy has held a number of positions in social services, initially in mental health and more recently in general health. These positions include: Māori Child Health Advisor, CDHB, board member of the Manawhenua ki Waitaha Māori Health Board, board member of the Comcare Charitable Trust, regional committee member of the JR McKenzie Trust, director Windermere Consultancy, committee member Lincoln University Joint Management Group.

Sandy is the current Chair of Te Taumutu Rūnanga. She is married to Richard and they have six adult children between them.
